The Indian Summer School on Cellular Automata was started in 2021 as a virtual internship program to train young cellular automata enthusiasts from multi-disciplinary domains on the theory and applications of cellular automata. Two previous versions of the summer school, 2021 and 2022 have been successfully completed. This free internship programme which lasts for almost two months, is rigorously research based and follows strict evaluation criteria. Last year, about 150 applications were received, and through one-to-one interaction, 49 students and professionals were invited to participate in the school. And, finally 19 participants have successfully touched the finish line. The successful participants ( click to see the participants) have carried out 12 different projects ( click to see the projects) out of which 5 are presented in ASCAT 2023.

Summer School on Cellular Automata

An Internship Program on Cellular Automata: Theory and Applications

Cellular automaton (CA) is a paradigm of unconventional fine-grained parallel computation that is being extensively used to model several applications in real life. Introduced in 2021 on the platform of Cellular Automata India, this school offers a state-of-the art research based interdisciplinary internship program on cellular automata (CAs) for the undergraduate students. Here, an introductory course on CAs is offered and then some research projects are given to the students to choose. Each student has to work on a project which will be mentored by expert(s) on that field and submit a project report. Certificate will be issued based on their performance in the final examination including a written test and a presentation on project.

Outcomes of Indian Summer School on Cellular Automata 2022

The following projects from the Indian Summer School on Cellular Automata 2022 were completed successfully.

Indian Summer School on Cellular Automata 2021

Duration: 15-June-2021 to 01-Aug-2021 || Theory Class (1 month) + Mini Project (15 days)

Outcome of Summer School on Cellular Automata 2021

The following papers were published in Proceedings of First Asian Symposium on Cellular Automata Technology (ASCAT 2022) based on continuation of some of the internship projects:
1. Defining Reachability Tree under Adiabatic and Reflexive Boundary Condition Cellular Automata by Nazma Naskar and B K Sivaraj.
2. Cellular-automata based simulation of dynamic recrystallization and statistical analysis of resulting grain growth by Subramanian R S, Sai Shree Ramadev and Prince Gideon Kubendran Amos
